Superb piece that and yeah that’s how I think we will all remember him. One game they did not mention was his brace he got at the City Ground in a 2-2 draw. I’d bough a shit car the day before… a rust ridden 950 Austin Metro for £150.00. Somehow squeezed 5 of us in there to go to the game, halfway up the motorway the bonnet latch snaps so we driving along with an open bonnet!! Managed to pull over and tie the fucking thing down. Got us there (usual trouble with the locals on the Bridge). Small looked the best striker in the world. Made it home and scrapped the car a week later!! Good old days…

It's hard to think of another striker who went downhill so quickly after a promising start, Jimmy Quinn never regained his early form but his decline was far more gradual compared to Small's, he'd also had a reasonable career before he joined us, but Small seems like a one and a quarter season wonder (the quarter was with us).

Got me thinking what happened to Small after us, couldn’t remember.. found this amusing write up of his time with us which all rings true as I remember it!

Yep he was, far too lightweight but certainly could finish.

In terms of under-rated players of 90s, little Matty Holmes was a lovely little player.

Boogers never got a fair crack of the whip.

The red card for the brilliantly reckless tackle on Gary Neville was about all he ever did in a West Ham shirt.

Dumitrescu was another foreign player that rolled up here and did fuck all.

Was Boogers actually a shit striker or was he just mental?

Some idiot wrote a comment on the BBC site the other day saying we were 'certainties to be relegated' and 'it was the lowest he'd been supporting the Hammer sin 60 years'

Hopefully, that fucking idiot is reading this thread about the 90s. Some of the players we had playing for us then. Dowie, Newell, Small. Shocking.

Iain Dowie

An awful footballer - started at Hendon and should have stayed there...it was his natural level

sold, in my playing days, I used to get called offside a lot but most of it was because the opposition supplied a linesman for our forwards half of the field and were being cheating cunts.

The cunts

I think Small had 10 goals by November.. was whispers of an England call up... think he scored 3 more goals that season... I've never known a player for any club to be more offside than him.

Mike small was absolutely horrendous apart from the 1st 3 months . Trevor Morley in the 18 months after the stabbing was terrible looked to have no energy whatsoever.

I saw Boogers nearly fillet Gary Neville's right knee at OT one night. So I've always liked him for that. He got sent off for it mind you.

He also signed Mad Dog aka Martin Allen.

Can't think of a worse striker than Alex Bunbury if I am honest!

Re: Who was our worst forward in the 90's...Boogers, Bunbury...
The worst strike partnership has got to have been Mike Newell and Steve Jones for a few games in early 97. How bad can two players be that you're actually looking forward to Iain Dowie returning from injury?

Re: Who was our worst forward in the 90's...Boogers, Bunbury...
For all the stick Chapman got people always forget he was old and bloody cheap when we signed him.

Three months short of his 34th birthday when we signed him from Pompey for £250k… he was a carthorse but we got a good hand a season out of him before his form fell off a l cliff as he was just past it.

He scored a few great headers for us - Man City I think? He was like a less aggressive Andy Carroll.

Most of our crap strikers in the 90s were when we were in the old 2nd division.

Florin looked about as lost as Scammaca has this season. Redknapp wisely shifted him after it was obvious he couldn’t play over here.

Re: Who was our worst forward in the 90's...Boogers, Bunbury...
Brady was manager at Celtic when Slater signed, then somewhat ironically Lou Macari followed him in he job so Slater played under both. At any other time bar following Lyall Macari might have done a good job at West Ham, he signed some decent players, especially Ludo.

Morley scored a few goals to be fair. Think Clive Allen had a good return one season. Forgot we signed Justin Fashanu!

Remember going to Loftus Road and news went around that Slater had just extended his contract… drew 0-0… shit game… shit season… and Slater was pretty much shit…. Somethings never change!!

Wanchope reminds me of Antonio… both have not got a clue what’s happening with their feet
